Corehard have been involved in the research of ground condition underneath Chester City Walls.
A danger of collapse was identified at St Johns Street where a significant portion has been carefully taken down and each stone recorded by Archaeologists. The plan being to rebiuld this section to exactly the same profile before collapse.
Penetrometer testing was used to determine density and resistance of underlyng existing ground through and below historical footings, some of which were believed to be up to 2000 years old.
Results were achieved at several locations and reached up to 4.5m below foundation level and provided valuable technical information to experts involved in reconstruction project.
The project is ongoing and further testing may be required
